SLN-esque music videos. – I went from being
very confused, to getting it, to appreciating him,
so that was an interesting evolution I wasn’t expecting. – I did not expect him
to be that good. What the heck? I had heard that he
was kinda really comedic. You know, he was like a character. But I never took the time
to listen to his stuff. – (FBE) So those videos all come
from rapper/comedian Lil Dicky. – “Lil Dicky.” Lil Dicky, that totally makes sense
for his content. – (FBE) How does he compare
to most other rappers out there today?
– He’s comedic. He’s funny. Most rappers nowadays
are talking about sex and money and getting bitches. – It’s so unique that
he tells an actual story from start to finish. – You’ll listen to it– like,
the first couple seconds, you’re like, “Okay, yeah, this is kinda cool.” And he goes in and it’s like,
“Wait, who the hell is this?!” – He takes himself
way less seriously, which I kind of appreciate,
but it’s also like there’s so many rappers that I think
are a lot more talented, at least lyrically. He might be trying to prove
that people take music and rap and all that too seriously. – He’s very, very, very different. He’s literally making jokes. I don’t know what
it’s being inspired by, what the motivation is,
but, dude, it’s [bleep] hilarious. – Even though his style is comedic, he’s still trying
to be the best rapper. Having him be like,
“No, I really want to do this, I really want to be good,
and I really want to show people I have flow.” If no one else supported him
or thought he could do it, T-Pain wouldn’t
have let him steal that shoot. Fetty Wap wouldn’t have
done the chorus, you know? A lot of big named people
are supporting him. – (FBE) Do you think
that someone like Lil Dicky would have been successful
pre-YouTube? – That’s tough to say, you know, because YouTube
has done a lot for musicians. Music is one of the toughest
industries to break into, and without the internet, we wouldn’t have a lot
of the artists we have today. – No, because YouTube spreads
those videos literally around the world. People can watch them
from wherever they are. – Definitely not because
I think that the video is definitely something, in his case,
that really helps push his music. The videos really help you,
obviously, visualize the story that he’s telling, and they go along
with the songs so perfectly, so I think YouTube
is definitely a great tool for him. – YouTube kind of gives
people a platform to put out things
that are really creative and maybe don’t have
a genre or a niche that’s previously established. If YouTube didn’t exist,
I guess it would have to go on MTV or VH1 or kind of be
on mainstream televison, and something like that,
I don’t think would make it. – (FBE) Finally, obviously,
Lil Dicky’s raps are much more comedic
than most other rappers out there, but do you think that the world
needs a rapper like Lil Dicky? – I don’t know if we need
a rapper like Lil Dicky, but, you know, he’s cool. – Absolutely, because he’s bringing–
he’s shining a new light and bringing in a new angle
for a rap community that’s been kind of spiralling
out of control, especially with this mumble rap,
this Lil Uzi punk rap that’s starting to become a thing. – There’s the woke rappers, and then there’s the rappers
that literally rap about nothing. So you just have
that comedic part in there, kind of balances it out,
so it’s like you’re woke for a second, you’re dumb for a second,
and then you’re laughing now. – Right now, he
seems like one of a kind. There are tons of comedy rappers, but I think he’s kind of giving
a bigger name to what comedy rap is. – Thanks for watching
