Road Scholar Retreats

When you enter the
gates of Montreat you immediately know that
you’re in a beautiful and warm, welcoming space. The mountains are all around us. We’re surrounded by
trees, water, lakes so immediately as you
come in to Montreat you know that you’re
in a special place. Participants coming
to one of the retreats here at the Shawnee
Institute have the opportunity to enjoy nature
like nowhere else. When you come here it’s like
stepping backwards in time. The hotel was built in 1911
and has a unique, rustic quality, but it also has a
humongous history to it. This Road Scholar
retreat location is quiet. It is surrounded
by natural beauty. It is simple, wrapped up in
a beautiful and deep and meaningful history. Rooms have either two twin
beds, a queen bed, or a king bed, and are nicely appointed.
Private bathrooms are available for each of the rooms,
and connect in the room itself. Road Scholar
retreat participants not only enjoy a
good night of rest, but are here basically
for the camaraderie, the educational experience, and
enjoying a beautiful place where they can just walk
to a different drumbeat. We want participants
to be able to escape from all the noise
of everyday life, and become unplugged for
the time that they are here. We offer yoga for
our participants. We also offer morning walks. We have a bird walk, and
all levels are invited. So, whether you’re brand new
to that type of exercise it’s appropriate for all
levels, and also custom planned for the type of program
you’re doing. Here on our Road Scholar retreats we like to keep active, whether it’s walking from
building to building, doing morning yoga, enjoying
our walking trails, the possibility is
really endless here. We really want you out and
active with other Road Scholar participants. We have had participants
from all over the globe, and they come here
and they share stories, and they find new friends
that I’ve seen travel to other locations together, and
they’re from all over the world, and they sit and enjoy each
other’s company over dinner. When we have our
farm to table meals at the Road Scholar program,
we will have things that are from the local area, and
also grown here in the area, and grown naturally. After finishing a Road
Scholar retreat here we want our participants to feel
relaxed, rejuvenated, you know and we want them to make
new friends and new bonds. Some people come alone, some people come
with their friends, but we want them all to
interact together and bond. It’s a great way to see new
parts of the United States, perhaps you haven’t visited,
at a very economical cost. Everything’s included
with your trip, so you can leave worry
behind and simply come and enjoy yourself,
and take advantage of all the different
opportunities that are available to you. For someone who is thinking
about signing up for a Road Scholar retreat, I would say it’s
the best value you can find. Come away, and relax, and enjoy
learning in a quiet setting where things are not rushed,
where you can take time to be you, to form
relationships, and friendships, and to learn in a setting
that nurtures you.
