So, the other day someone asked me for a recommendation of a good homeschool program. They wanted to find something in which the curriculum was already set, that required minimal supervision, and
something where they could actually speak with the teacher regularly. One of
the ideas I gave them was to check out Connections Academy. Now Connections
Academy is not a homeschool. It’s actually a tuition free virtual school.
What does that mean? It means that kids can take advantage of the best of both
worlds. They can do their schoolwork from home or anywhere they have an internet
connection and curriculum can be tailored to their specific learning
styles or interests. But, as a public charter school, they can learn from state-credentialled teachers. These teachers offer Live Lesson Sessions in which they use a
web cam to be able to teach the children face-to-face. This can be done one-on-one or in small group sessions. And, your kids can even be a part of group projects!
Teachers can then share their PowerPoint lessons or even take advantage of a
virtual whiteboard so they can demonstrate various concepts. Connections Academy offers K-12 curriculum with an option to take advantage of honors,
AP, and even A-G approved courses in case they’re interested in going to University later. Worried about socialization? You shouldn’t be. Connections Academy also organizes field trips and other special events so
your children can get to know other students their age offline and in person.
Here in California, Connections Academy is available in many different counties.
You’ll want to make sure to check the area map to see whether or not it’s available where you live. For more information check out this link. There you’ll find the full
blog post about what a virtual school is, what Connection Academy offers, and why it might be a good fit for you and your family.
